Substantive Reasons for Refusal

A Trademark term. There are several substantive reasons for refusing registration of a mark. The reasons for refusal include:
(1) likelihood of confusion; the mark is descriptive of the goods or services; primarily geographically descriptive or primarily geographically deceptively;
(2) poor or mis-description of the goods or services;
(3) the marks is a surname; or
(4) mere ornamentation.
