The Philippines : FDA confirms its commitment to fighting fake medicines

Presidential Spokesman, Salvador Panelo, said the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) remains “strict” in the campaign against the counterfeit medicines in the country. Panelo made the remarks after the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) 2019 reportedly described the Philippines as a hotspot for knockoff medicines. From 2014 to 2017, fake medicines coming mostly from Pakistan, India, and China reportedly entered the Philippines through illegal trade. Senator Ralph Recto has filed a resolution seeking an investigation into the alleged presence of fake medicines in the country, calling the problem “a large-scale swindle of the cruelest kind.”
