Columbia : Fake medicine trafficking network dismantled

Six people have been arrested in Bogotá, Medellín and Cali in connection with a national smuggling racket. The suspects are thought to have been dealing in food supplements and muscle growth products. The gang was selling medicines containing chemical agricultural products, substances for athletics, and substances for people seeking to lose weight. The enquiry has revealed that the supplements came from North America, China and India and that they transited in Germany before arriving in the various countries in the form of pharmaceutical samples. During the operation, police seized 163,730 food supplements, 40,000 adhesive labels, 13 million pesos in cash, seven mobile telephones, two hard disks and three laptops.
