USA : 47.2 million medicine units diverted in the US last year

A second annual Protenus report on medicine diversion in the US has revealed that 47.2 million medicine units worth $454 million were diverted from the legal to the illegal supply chain last year. The report highlights that whilst there is an 11% decrease in incidents, the number of units of diverted medicines increased by 126% in comparison with 2017. Unsurprisingly, almost all cases of stolen medicines concerned opioids – mainly oxycodone, hydrocodone and fentanyl – and benzodiazepines.
