More than 200 police officers have been mobilized to dismantle a network of suspected traffickers involved in manufacturing and distributing fake medicines. It is thought that the fake products were exported to the US, Europe, Australia and Quebec. The investigation, named “Affranchir” (to liberate) began in February 2018 after Canadian customs officers intercepted 200 parcels of fake Xanax tablets (an anxiety medication) in Laval post offices. In total, fourteen people are being investigated and several have been arrested. Charges will soon be laid.
