US : Office of the United States Trade Representative releases annual Intellectual Property Rights Report

The Special 301 Report identifies trading partners that do not adequately or effectively protect and enforce intellectual property (IP) rights. The Report indicates that fake medicines are a major concern in terms of illicit online sales, especially in countries such as China and India. The Report also reveals that almost 20% of pharmaceuticals sold in India are fake. This information has been refuted by the Indian Secretary of Health, Preeti Sudan, who stated that the Report is an attack on generic medicines; India being the largest generic medicine exporter in the world.
