Haiti – Fake antibiotic alert

The Public Health minister has issued an alert warning that a counterfeit medicine is currently circulating in the country: “Clarithromycin tablets, 500 mg”. The product is presented in a white opaque plastic bottle containing 100 tablets. The minister announced that “This medicine is falsely labelled, bears a MYLAN® logo and could contain any type of dangerous molecule.” Several patients have already fallen victim to the fake medicine. A group of patients under treatment for ulcers at St Nicolas hospital suffered from convulsions and hypoglycemia after taking the fake clarithromycin.
