In desperation, faced with the rapid progress of their father’s disease, and on the recommendation of an acquaintance, several brothers contacted so-called doctors who sold them, for 30,000 pesos, a fake treatment apparently imported from the United States that was supposed to cure cancer. The father took the prescribed treatment for about 10 days, but did not improve. On the contrary, his health deteriorated and he eventually died. After lab screening, a pharmacist discovered that the product was a placebo with no active ingredient and was, therefore, ineffective.
