Algeria: customs officials need more fake medicine training

The Algerian Customs Director General stated during the 18th Algiers Pharmaceutical Forum, that field customs officials were lacking the practical knowledge needed to fight against fake medicines: “Customs officials are trained to deal with sports equipment, cosmetics and trademarks but they have no fake medicine training.” Just as for other types of goods, they want to be trained to identify products so as to improve the fight against fake medicine trafficking. Algerian customs seized 17,272 boxes of medicines in 2016 worth DA1.2m. This illicit market is mainly linked to smuggling.
