Taiwan: two men arrested for trafficking fake veterinary vaccines

An investigation was carried out in Taiwan following the unexplained deaths of numerous pigs in Yulin and Changhua pig farms. The deaths are thought to be due to falsified vaccines. Pig farmers were duped by two traffickers selling heavily-diluted and, therefore, completely inefficient vaccines. The products were sold with official certificates of authenticity so as not to alarm the buyers. The criminals made almost €750,000 from the scam. In March, government authorities received a tip-off from a veterinary products supplier that diluted vaccines with fake labels and official certificates were being sold on the market.
