As a precautionary measure, AstraZeneca laboratory has launched a nationwide recall of its cholesterol-lowering medicine, Crestor, in Taiwan after falsified products were found in the supply chain. The Taiwan Health Agency had announced several days earlier that Crestor (rosuvastatin) 10mg tablets – bearing the batch numbers MK479 and MV503 – had been discovered in the legal supply chain. Local media has reported that the fake tablets do not contain rosuvastatin but another molecule in the same medicine class (atorvastatin). Two suspects have been arrested and face 10 years in prison and a $3m fine.
