The health minister has announced that the fake batches of Crestor recently discovered in the legal Taiwan supply chain were made with ingredients from China which had been shipped to Taiwan by post. The authorities have said that the fake tablets were made from illicit atorvastatin, a cheaper medicine whose patent has expired. According to the Taipei Times, both batches of the falsified Cresto (rosuvastatin) have already been prescribed to almost 570,000 patients. The primary suspect involved in the case has been remanded in custody and the ministry is currently investigating the possibility of sending his investigators to China to continue the enquiry.
