The Daily Star Sunday reports that the North Korean government set up hundreds of websites to sell fake versions of the infamous erectile dysfunction treatment, Viagra. The fake pills pose a potential health risk and are sold for £2 each in over 100 countries, generating almost £500m per year. The British newspaper reports that the money is used to fund Kim Jong-un’s nuclear weapons program, that millions of fake Viagra tablets are manufactured in a factory near the capital Pyongyang, that the medicines are tested on the factory workers and that some of them have died. One witness said: “Counterfeiting is a state-funded enterprise in North Korea.” It is thought that the trafficking is part of a wider effort to raise money which also includes selling fake DVDs and banknotes.
