Malaysian health authorities launched an alert about dangerousness of non-authorized traditional Chinese medicines

Health authorities advise the public not to buy or consume traditional Chinese medicines, unauthorized, known by as “Dong Tan May” and “Seven Leave Ginseng”s. Analysis revealed that they contain a corticosteroid whose use is regulated. Adverse effects inherent in taking these products are: liver failure, high cholesterol or significant weight gain. The authorities explained that this is a corticosteroid product requiring a medical prescription and used primarily for the treatment of serious inflammatory problems. Its use is prohibited under in the production of traditional medicines. Prolonged consumption of these products may cause serious side effects especially in diabetics.
