Import of counterfeit medicines is growing in Kyrgyzstan

The association of pharmaceutical companies asked the Minister of Health of Kyrgyzstan to take measures against the importation of counterfeit drugs. This illegal trade has exploded since Kyrgyzstan has joined the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU). In Kyrgyzstan, the population is looking for cheap medicines and do not hesitate to buy them in the streets and bazaars. As long as there is a demand for this type of drugs, traffickers of counterfeits will be in the streets.

The Minister of Health of Kyrgyzstan says that since Kyrgyzstan has joined the EEU, in May 2015, medicines are cheaper. According to the World Bank, more than 2.1 million Kyrgyz people live below the poverty line in 2013, while the country has approximately 5.7 million people.
