The Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone is regularly conducting over the country outreach programmes and suitability inspection, normal routine inspection and proximity inspection. The Board inspects district medical stores, visits Peripheral Health Units, village clinics and NGOs dealing with medicines to know how they import and distribute medicines. If they find counterfeit or expired or substandard drugs which can be harmful for health, they destroy them.
The Board regularly works together with the police, as well as ministries and government organizations to set up strategies on counterfeit and illegal drugs.
The 2001 Pharmacy Board Act will be soon reviewed in order to give the Board a more powerful action and ensure a better health to the Sierra Leonean.
