During a police raid led on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 in Phnom Penh’s Sen Sok district, ten types of illegal drugs were seized. Among them, antidiabetic medicines and diet pills. A total of over 100,000 boxes was found.
A man, 40, was arrested and brought to justice. Analyses are underway to determine if these are falsified medicines. It would appear that they would be mainly drugs for which quality standards are not met, meaning they contain no active ingredient or in small quantities.
In a report published in 2012, the International Pharmaceutical Organization reports that only 1,477 pharmacists are authorized in Cambodia, thus implying that thousands are operating without authorization.
