Dismantling of a warehouse full of unapproved drugs in Malaysia

RM12, 4 million – or almost US$ 3 million – worth of unregistered medicines were seized in a raid at the Kuala Lumpur airport on June 6th by the Health Ministry’s Pharmaceutical service and the Selangor Pharmaceutical Enforcement. This seizure followed the discovery of a warehouse dedicated for the storage and packaging of 181 types of unapproved drugs.
The Malaysian authorities believe this traffic was able to operate from the warehouse since March 2014. Medicines – mostly generic treatments for erectile dysfunction, high blood pressure and cholesterol – were distributed to customers through a website located in London, but involving companies based in India, Singapore and Malaysia.
Most of the customers are from the United States and the medicines were sent as health supplements.
